Gauteng province continues to lead the way in the COVID-19 vaccination rollout programme with Gauteng residents widely welcoming the process.
According to MEC for Health, Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi the province has vaccinated over one million people in July.
"The fact that we have gone over one million people vaccinated in July and are fast approaching two million mark, this shows that there is a high demand in communities to get vaccinated and the urgency with which we are approaching the vaccination rollout programme," said MEC Mokgethi
Currently the country is on a drive to vaccinate people aged between 35 to49-years old. The group has been showing positive attitude towards the drive.
41, year-old Mahlatse Mahlase, Group Editor-in-Chief at Eye Witness News said she had a wonderful experience when she went for her jab at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital last month.
"I had a friendly, helpful, patient and well-organized experience. I got there with the colleague and it took us only five to ten minutes and we were out of there," said Mahlase.
Mahlase said the past month was just a hell, but the vaccine was giving hope to the people.
"It has been over 18 months of hell, people were not able to move around, people have been losing their livelihood and so many people have died.
"For me a vaccine was an important layout protection, hoping that we will get a chance to get back to normal and have certain parts of the economy opened and be able to live without fear or guilt," added Mahlase.
A total of 190 3497 vaccines have been administered in the province as of 02 August.
As part of ramping-up the vaccination drive, the province has also increased the number of public vaccination sites that operate on weekends from four to 17.
