Department of e-Government 2024/12/10 - 22:00
The Gauteng Department of e-Government celebrated a major milestone in digital inclusion on Thursday, 5 December 2024, as MEC Bonginkosi Dhlamini officially launched free public WIFI sites at the Daveyton Main Clinic and Lesiba Secondary School. These sites form part of the Gauteng Provincial Network (GPN), an ambitious project connecting government institutions and providing residents with free internet access.
Speaking at the launch in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, MEC Dhlamini emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide and creating opportunities for innovation and education. "This initiative reaffirms our commitment to empowering communities through technology. With these new sites, we're bringing the future closer to our residents, ensuring that no one is left behind," said Dhlamini.
The launch included a media tour, allowing members of the media to explore the sites and experience the transformative impact of the GPN firsthand. These new locations are among 30 completed sites in the project's third phase, further advancing connectivity in Gauteng.
The department's dedication to leveraging technology to improve lives continues to shine, with the GPN creating pathways to a more inclusive digital economy.
