Government continues to call upon the youth to register and get vaccinated for COVID-19.
Last week hundreds of youth flocked to the vaccination sites across the country, to get their jab, a move that has been welcomed by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Premier David Makhura.
In his weekly newsletter, President Ramaphosa commended young people for turning out in their numbers.
"The young people of our country are giving us all hope that an end to this time of hardship is within our sight. The maturity that young people have brought to the important task of vaccinating as many South Africans as possible calls to mind the words of Frantz Fanon, that it is to each generation to discover its mission and fulfil it," the President said.
The President applauded the youth for working together in the fight against the spread of the virus.
"I was not surprised to see young people taking to this task with such determination.
Since the pandemic broke out 17 months ago, young South Africans have been an integral part of the national effort to battle the coronavirus," said President Ramaphosa
Last week the country passed the milestone of 10 million vaccine doses administered.
In Gauteng, about 2 654 226 people have been vaccinated thus far.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura said the province has spread its wings to accommodate the new troop.
"Gauteng has expanded vaccination drive across the province, to ensure that persons who are 18 years and older are not left out," said Makhura
Young person Vuyo Zitha got his first jab today at the Zwartkop Raceway Drive Thru was satisfied by the process.
"My experience here was top-notch. getting vaccinated takes away the anxiety about the pandemic. Get vaccinated, if you are not doing it for yourself do it for your family," said Zitha.
All persons who are 18 years and older are encouraged to visit their nearest vaccination sites and get vaccinated. END
