Department Assists Children In Institutions To Make Best Career Decisions

As we entered the most significant week for children where everyone is gearing up to commemorating Child Protection Week which brings the rights and issues that affect children into the spotlight across the country, the Gauteng Department of Social Development strives to assist children in the institutions to make better career choices.

On Tuesday, 30th May 2023, the Department in partnership with Deloitte and Touche, took career guidance to Sedibeng institutions where children from both Emmasdal Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) and JJ Luckhoff Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) were presented with opportunities to talk about their careers.

According to representative of Deloitte and Touche ,Ndivhuwo Nevondo, the aim is to prepare and help children to make informed career and study decisions when time for them to study in the institutions of higher learning comes.

“Despite the circumstances they grow up in at government centres, some of these children are from the less-resourced communities, therefore, we want them not to struggle in terms of career choices when they finish matric, we want these children to have a clear sense of direction for their future studies or employment opportunities”, said Nevondo.

One child from Luckhoff CYCC, Thabiso, not his real name, who is currently in grade 12 said he is grateful for the opportunity to ask questions about career path that he want to pursue. He told Deloitte representatives that he wants to become an Accountant.

“I am happy that the department brought these people in our institutions to help us with our study choices after we finish matric”, he said.
