Bank of Lisbon fire fighters’ families to receive houses- 04 May 2021

Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA, Lebogang Maile has vowed to honour three deceased fire fighters, who lost their lives during the Bank of Lisbon fire incident, by handing  over houses  to their   families in the next   six months.

MEC Maile was speaking at the commemorative breakfast held in honour of the fire fighters at the Ekurhuleni Fire Station on Tuesday, 04 May 2021. The breakfast coincided with the International Fire Fighters Day.

The meeting to mark International Fire Fighters' Day which is commemorated annually to celebrate firefighters and honour those who lost their lives whilst on duty.

Simphiwe Moropane (28), Mduduzi Ndlovu (40) and Khathutshelo Muedi (37), lost their lives while extinguishing a fire that erupted on the 23rd floor of the Bank of Lisbon building in September 2018.

"We want to honour the three fire fighters that lost their lives in September 2018 during the Bank of Lisbon fire incident in the Johannesburg CBD," said MEC Maile

He also honoured the trio by awarding them with "Special Bravery Medals" posthumously He also honoured other fire fighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in the province.

"Today, we also want to remember and honour the 16 firefighters who also lost their lives in the line of duty since 2000 in Gauteng," he added.
