When hope fades away and you forget that light shines in darkness. You need someone to believe in you until you can believe in yourself.
Young men and women in West Rand once overlooked their dreams and submitted to a life of alcohol and drug abuse.
Sizwe Sekgopi (24), has recovered from drug addiction for 2 years. He says he took his first joint at the age of 12.
"I was influenced by my peers and I easily fell to the cracks because I was an orphan. My will to live and pursue my dreams vanished. Clouded by guilt, shame and remorse, I isolated myself from my support structure," uttered Sekgopi.
Participating in the rehabilitation programme boosted his confidence and addiction habits slowly faded away as he faced himself.
He learnt that his problem is not with drugs but underlying issues he had to alternatively confront. He is not yet employed, but content that life will change for the better.
Sekgopi's ray of hope in realising his forgotten dreams arose in a partnership between the Department of Social Development and MTN Foundation when they handed over a multimedia centre at Life Recovery Centre in Randfontein, celebrated under the theme "Health for Justice. Justice for Health."
Service users were awarded with certificates as evidence for successfully completing rehabilitation programme. With the introduction of the multimedia centre, they will benefit from accredited computer training courses and other job-related skills.​​​
