Gauteng has administered close to 4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses with 2 million people fully vaccinated against the virus.
The province is also seeing a steady decrease in the number of new infections, hospital admissions and active cases.
According to the Department of Health, there were 150 new infections of the virus as of 13 September 2021, while over 889 137 people have recovered from the virus.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng was standing at 912 004 with 2712 people currently in hospitalised and 19 068 deaths.
With the threat of a possible fourth wave of COVID-19 infections, the Gauteng Department of
Health is working with multiple stakeholders to get as many people vaccinated as possible.
The provincial government has also partnered with Faith-Based Organisations to set up vaccination sites at places of worship to vaccinate their members and nearby communities.
Vaccination is free to everyone in South Africa. All vaccination site in the province allow walk-ins.
"You can go to a government health facility or a private pharmacy that offers vaccinations even if you do not have medical aid."
Government is urging citizens to continue wearing a mask when with other people, keeping a safe physical distance and washing hands regularly with soap and water or using a hand sanitiser.
Avoid crowded and poorly ventilated spaces as these increase the risk of contracting the virus.
