Celebrating World Social Work Day

Department of Social Development 2022/03/21 - 22:00

Social Work Day is a special day for acknowledging and embracing Social Workers for their dedication to servicing their communities. Every year, World Social Work Day (WSWD) is celebrated on the third Tuesday of March. It is a celebration that has become a high point in the Social Work Profession. The first National Social Work Celebration Day took place in March 1963.

Social Workers works in a variety of fields to render specialized services to children, youth, adult, families, and the elderly. The Social Workers empower their communities to bring change and sustainable development. Social Workers promote eco-social sustainability in the communities by acknowledging that the ecological environments and the social development of an individual impact their livelihoods.

For the month of March, we want to applaud all social workers; We admire your commitment and resilience to keep on going despite all the challenges you are faced with daily. Being tasked with the responsibility of carrying vulnerable individuals lives in your hands, youe are sometimes devalued and demoralized.

In this process, you downgrade your own self-worth and value; Therefore, we are here to remind you that you are the source of water that brings life to our most vulnerable people and without your continuous efforts, the drought in our communities will spread.

Social Workers are valuable and irreplaceable; therefore, taking care of yourself first and foremost is important, because when you are not taking care of yourself, you get out of balance, and you forget how to take care of others.

Social Workers and Social Auxiliary Workers need to be valued and appreciated as they are dedicated on ensuring that their client’s needs are met even if it means going an extra mile. When social workers are appreciated, they become motivated to continue doing their work passionately.

Moving forward our Social Workers and Social Auxiliary Workers will strive in co-building a new eco-social world, leaving no one behind.

We thank you for your service!
