Frontline healthcare professionals in Gauteng received yet another moral boost as Transnet SOC Limited donated personal protective equipment (PPE) worth R5.2 million recently.
This initiative is part of national efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and protect the lives of all South Africans.
The donation from South Africa’s largest freight company comes after government’s call for businesses and individuals to contribute in the fight against the virus. The handover of the PPE took place at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) where most of the material will be utilised. These PPEs will be shared with other healthcare facilities in the province.
The hospital which offers health services to the people of Soweto and surrounding areas has 2 680 useable beds; 6 197 staff members; services an average of 100 000 inpatients and 824 000 outpatient cases annually.
