At least 1252 more people were infected with COVID-19 in Gauteng on, 10 August 2021.
The new confirmed cases bring the cumulative cases in the province to 880 672 with 846 243 recoveries.
A total of 17 783 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the province.
Gauteng Department of Health indicates that 583 0people are being treated and cared for at hospitals in the province, with about 2749 in public hospitals and 3081in private hospitals.
A total of 2 176 076 vaccines have been administered in the province as of 10 August 2021.
The Tshwane district is leading the province with the number of new infections which are sitting at 443. They followed by Johannesburg district with 419 and Ekurhuleni with 257 new cases.
Sedibeng district recorded 76 and West Rand 48 new cases.
Gauteng Provincial Government has expanded the number of vaccination sites that are operational on weekends from 16 to 26 to cover all districts.
The majority of these sites are in the Tshwane district, which had nine sites operational, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg had three sites each, while the Sedibeng district had two sites.
Gauteng Health MEC Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi said all vaccinations sites would accept walk-ins regardless if people were registered or not.
"We want to ensure that we encourage people to vaccinate. We have realised that many people are working during the week and can't make it on weekends. Therefore, we have opened new sites where anyone wishing to vaccinate on weekends can be assisted," said MEC.
Gauteng government condemns large social gatherings and urged residents to follow the non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 prevention measures as infections continue to decline in the province.
"Let us remember that non-pharmaceutical interventions remain the best weapon against COVID-19. We all have the power to make a difference to curb the spread of the virus," she added. END
