25-year-old Tebogo “Tebza” Mabye has turned his life for the better.
Having grew up at the Mould Empower Serve (MES) from an early age, Tebza as he is affectionately known to his friends, has recently opted to explore his entrepreneurship skills by opening a coffee shop in Jeppestown, Johannesburg.
Speaking to the Bulletin this week he said, “I literally grew up in the organization since my mother was not earning much and I have always wanted to be a businessman one day so that I can take care of her”.
He said that at MES he was introduced to survival skills, self-reliance and business concepts which he hopes will benefit him to sustain his business endeavours. He further indicated that his future aspirations include giving other young stars business opportunities so that they can learn to fend for themselves.
MES is a shelter for homeless people in the city centre, funded by the department and is one of the shelters that accommodate scores of homeless people since Covid-19 lockdown in March this year and was subsequently visited by MEC Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi during her service delivery blitz recently.
Since 1986 MES Johannesburg has been fulfilling the needs of the marginal and destitute communities in and around Johannesburg and works on a holistic approach of intake, intervention and exit. All programmes are structured to successfully help each client one-step at a time. It covers all services to ensure each client will have an exit opportunity with a successful outcome of becoming a sustainable citizen.
