Ward 58 covers Mayfair, Mayfair West, Jan Hofmeyer, Crosby, Amalgam and Paarlshoop, and it is part of Joburg Region F, which has the second highest positive cases in the City of Joburg.
Region F (covers Johannesburg Inner City and South) had 12012 Covid-19 positive cases as at Monday, 27 July. 
The ward based team performs various functions at hotspot areas including identification of positive cases and tracking and tracing contacts; offering medical care to those who need it; referring people to quarantine and isolation sites based on assessment and increasing awareness and education.  
In addition to Covid-19 awareness campaign, the team also performs other health screenings including HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, BMI, immunisation of kids who missed their dates.  
Gauteng Department of Health Chief Director for Joburg District, Mogeru Morewane, said she was pleased with how things went on the first day. The campaign will run for four days, from Tuesday to Friday.  
"I'm happy, because when you look at the majority of people here are wearing face mask, even the homeless people. It means people are adhering to our messages.  I'm not happy about social distancing though. It's an area we need to improve on," said Morewane. 
Morewane pleaded with older people and people with underlying conditions to stay home and come out only for essential necessities. 
The community health workers who conducted the tracking and tracing in Mayfair said community members reacted differently to them. Some community members were open and friendly whilst others refused to allow them to their homes. 
"Some people fear we could infect them with Covid-19 through the flyers we are handing out. Other people know the virus is here, some don't believe it exists at all and others just don't care," said Tshegofatso Selona. 
"I want to say to the residents of Johannesburg, Covid-19 is real and it is here. We all need to adhere to the regulations of the lockdown because if we don't do that we are going to be in big trouble. We must wear our mask and going out only when it is necessary and observe social distancing at all times," implored Morewane.
