The Gauteng Department of Health has condemned recent criminal incidents targeting vaccination teams.
This comes after a vaccinating team working in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria were robbed at gunpoint by five men on Saturday.
The perpetrators fled with vaccination programme gadgets; three tablets, one smartphone and six cell phones.
In another incident, in Chamdor, Kagiso a bakkie was highjacked with mobile vaccination site equipment and gazebos on November 29.
Cases of robbery have been opened at Soshanguve and Kagiso police stations respectively.
Spokesperson Kwara Kekana has called on all members of society to work with law enforcement agencies to share any information regarding the robberies.
"These senseless acts occurred at a time when the province is ramping up the vaccination programme by activating more vaccination sites in all the districts in order to vaccinate as many people as possible,"
"Healthcare workers remain the backbone of the health system, even during the pandemic as they continue to play a pivotal role in terms of vaccination programme rollout," added Kekana.
