Office of the Premier 2019/06/30 - 22:00
The Gauteng Premier David Makhura will this morning outline priorities of the 6 administration on job creation, investment and improving the lives of Gauteng residents when he delivers the State of the Province Address (Sopa) at the University of Johannesburg in Soweto.
The speech is expected to outline how government working with labour and private sector will grow the economy while creating sustainable jobs.
It is expected that government will continue with the transformation programme which ensures that all the people of Gauteng are full participants in the economy and enjoy the full benefits of the wealth the economy creates.
In line with this, government will continue to support township based businesses and ensure that not only do they get business from government but they are also able to grow and supply big businesses with goods and services.
Gauteng Government will continue to promote integrity and intensify the fight against corruption across the various provincial departments.
The Premier's speech is expected to also highlight opportunities for young people with more focus on skills and ensuring that they receive permanent employment.
On Education, Premier Makhura is expected to outline how the province will continue to be the number one performing province not only in terms of matric results but in all aspects of public education.
The introduction of smart classrooms, equipped with digital boards and internet connectivity and the partnership with the private sector on the rollout of schools of specialisation is key to preparing learners for the skills required by the labour market in the context of the unfolding fourth industrial revolution.
Despite the many challenges still faced in healthcare, Gauteng will ensure hospitals are clean, open on time, well run, have reduced waiting times, employ more staff, improve staff morale and high rates of medicine availability.
The Premier will also highlight how primary healthcare facilities will be improved to ease the pressure at central health facilities.
