Gauteng province has since convened various dialogues targeting children, parents and key stakeholders to converse on care and protection of children and ultimately come up with solutions.

On Saturday, the department hosted more than 300 children, who were part of the dialogue throughout the province. This was a platform for children to give feedback on their dialogues:

• Substance abuse
• Learner/Teacher romantic relationships
• Initiation schools
• Gangs in Schools
• Hunger and poverty

• Peer pressure
• Child Abuse

The dialogues also encouraged that while children identify challenges they should also come up with possible solutions.

Amongst recommendation made by children these included that:

- Government should integrate cyber bullying and bullying in school curriculum and conduct more school based campaigns in child safety
- Government should introduce parenting programs that teaches parent to disciple children without using violence
- Government should involve school management, teachers, parents, community and police to create a safe learning environment in schools
