Tributes continue to pour for the Acting Director General in Office of the Premier, Thabo Masebe who passed away on Sunday.
In a statement, Premier David Makhura expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Masebe family, particularly his children and siblings, and the provincial government at large.
"Masebe was a meticulous public servant with a wealth of knowledge. He was dependable and executed all his duties with diligence, precision, and competency.
"The Gauteng Provincial Government is poorer without Masebe. We are grateful to the Masebe family for allowing him to share his selfless spirit of activism with us and for the outstanding contribution in bettering the lives of the people of Gauteng," Makhura said.
On Monday, Premier David Makhura is visiting the family home to offer his condolences.
He was accompanied by the MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko and Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Ntombi Mekgwe.
Masebe was a multi-skilled communicator with over 20 years' experience in the public service. An activist who committed his life to serving the people of South Africa and humanity.
He is described as loyal and committed servant of the people who dedicated his time to transforming the Provincial Communications Services and the overall improvement of the public service.
Before his appointment as the Head of Communications in the Gauteng Provincial Government he worked at The Presidency as the spokesperson to former Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe.
During his tenure at The Presidency, he was also responsible for managing the Communications Directorate in the private office of the Deputy President.
In all the roles he has served in, he placed the wellbeing of the people above everything else - a true servant of the people.
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) Director-General, Phumla Williams said Masebe was known for his commitment and dedication to serving the people of South Africa.
"His passing is a great loss to the public service. He served with distinction and courage, and often went beyond the call of duty."
Veteran writer, Chris Vick took to social media saying he was one of the last of a generation of activists who combined political acumen with communication skills, underpinned by organizational loyalty and discipline. A role model for public communicators".
The ANC Caucus in the GPL described him as an exceptional communicator, a dedicated servant of the people of Gauteng and a humble, large hearted philanthropist whose presence left a positive mark on those he served and worked with.
"Comrade Masebe was an unassuming and humble person who was a true and loyal servant of the people. He distinguished himself as a disciplined and committed cadre. He was soft spoken, eloquent, persuasive and had perfected the art of communication".
