Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has committed to ensuring that learners who have not been placed are assisted before the end of January.
Lesufi said 700 of the Grade 1 and 8 pupils who applied through the online application system were still unplaced.
"I wasn't to reassure parents that the remaining children that have not yet been placed will be placed before the end of January," said Lesufi.
The Department (HoD) and the team are working tirelessly to make sure that the problem could be resolved. The department has also opened the online system for late registration, he said.
Panyaza was speaking at the official opening of the newly refurbished state-of-the-art Setlabotjha Primary School in the Eatonside community, of Sebokeng under the Emfuleni Local Municipality on Wednesday morning.
The MEC said the late placements was not because of a lack of planning or lack of schools, rather it was issues relating to migration to the province.
This academic year, about 102 000 new learners were received into Gauteng schools.
Panyaza also cited the parents having preferred schools. "Parents are forsaking the township schools and opt for former Model C schools and this should be changed as all teachers are well trained, he said.
"It is a huge struggle to change the mentality of our people to say township education is quality education. We are committed as Gauteng to ensure that all our schools provide quality education."
Moreover, the MEC also thanked the teachers for being vaccinated.
"About 95% of educators in South Africa are fully vaccinated and ready to teach learners. The remaining 5% have got the other valid reasons. We are sure that we will reach 98%."
