Service Delivery Blitz Hits Dube Hostel

The Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) hosted a service delivery blitz at Dube Hostel in Soweto last Friday.

The blitz was aimed at sharing information and provide services to the hostel community by the various government department and stakeholders.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development Stakeholder Relations Directorate, Deputy Director Khosi Radebe said, "We are here to offer services. We know about your challenges such as unemployment, lack of identity documents and children that do not have birth certificates. We also came along with other government departments and NPOs to attend to your challenges. For those who need Social Workers they are here today to assist you," Radebe added.

Radebe pleaded with hostel dwellers to make use of these services as they are offered for free.


The community members were given information amongst others on how to access foster care, social work services, bursaries, learnerships, internships, food parcels, dignity packs, school uniform, ECDs and funding.

20-years-old Sicelo Dlamini was excited after he visited some of the stalls. "I passed my matric two years ago and I do not have money to further my studies. I got information from Mo-Africa Skills Development Centre on how to acquire skills that will help me secure a job. On the other hand, the guys from Tshepo One Million, took my details for employment opportunities".

The department was joined by MO-Africa Skills Development Centre, Lifeline, SASSA, SANCA, SAPS, Tshepo One Million, Departments of Home Affairs, Labour, Agriculture and Rural Development for service the blitz.
