Gauteng MEC Jacob Mamabolo is leading a campaign to continuously monitor and enhance adherence to preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 within public transport.
With the province being the epicentre of the third wave, the MEC was on Thursday- 24 June, joined in the law enforcement operation to monitor COVID-19 regulation compliance by Minister Fikile Mbalula (Transport), Ms Khumbudzo Ntshavheni (Acting Minister in the Presidency) and Ms Mammoloko Kubayi (Acting Minister of Health), at various Pretoria taxi ranks. 
The MEC also took the COVID-19 compliance inspection drive to taxi ranks at Bara, Bree and Noord in Johannesburg as well as at Sebokeng, Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark taxi ranks in the Sedibeng District Municipality.  
In his 2021/22 Budget Speech, the MEC committed to working with the taxi industry to reduce the spread of COVID-19. "We will continue to work with the taxi industry to fight Covid-19 through the CADET program whilst providing sanitisers to protect commuters and operators" said the MEC. He added "I would like to sincerely thank the entire leadership of the taxi Industry for the patience, good leadership and cooperation under extreme difficult conditions".
The campaign is part of provincial government's continuous monitoring of adherence to preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 within the public transport sector. 
MEC Mamabolo was joined, in these operations, by local leaders of the taxi industry.
