MEC conducts oversight visits

Department of Social Development 2021/03/22 - 22:00

Last week the Gauteng Social Development MEC Morakane Mosupyoe conducted a compliance oversight visits to the three department's facilities that cater for vulnerable groups in Sedibeng.

Mosupyoe started her visit by interacting with the management of JW Luckhoff Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) and later went to Bophelong prototype and Evaton prototype.

"This is our follow-up visit after we went to Soshanguve Child Secure Care Center and our main purpose to visit these CYCC's and prototypes is to ascertain that the services that we are giving to children who are supposed to be guided in life, those who are in conflict with the law are given the service that we are supposed to provide to them as the department." She said.

During her briefing and interaction with the management of JW Luckhoff, Mosupyoe raised concern over issues of dilapidated infrastructure where some are old and staff that is not enough to provide some of the services to children, and she vowed to provide support in order to improve service to the facility in the interest of the children.

"We are here to check whether the services that we give to children are of good quality hence we want the staff that is qualified and fit for purpose, and we want enough staff to give this service in terms of the ratio of children in every institution. We do not want to intentionally fail our children in the institutions just because we as officials have our own issues. We have a responsibility to give these children a future. We have to give them the best service they can get, but I am encouraged that the management of these institutions are on top of the issues as far as the needs of the children and the facilities are concerned and I can assure them that they have my full support", Mosupyoe explained.
