In pursuit of stability and ensuring continuous delivery of quality health care, Gauteng Department of Health has appointed Dr Sello Matjila as a Chief Executive Officer for Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, Tshwane.
Dr Matjila's appointment is in line with the promise made by the MEC, Dr Bandile Masuku during the delivery of his budget speech to fill all vacant hospital CEO positions.
Gauteng Health team is welcoming Dr Sello Matjila and wishing him well in his new position.
During his first walkabout and interaction with staff in the hospital, Dr Matjila emphasised the importance of putting patients first.
"Our business is to serve patient with humility and to provide them with the best possible service. At the end of the day, we should go home with a smile and a comfort that we are changing people lives and making meaningful contribution to the vulnerable members of our communities who remains our key stakeholders,"
"I am ready to take the hospital to the next level and I am happy that the staff is 100% behind me. Our work begins now," said the elated Dr Matjila.
Furthermore, Dr Matjila added that working as a health worker is not for the faint hearted and used the opportunity to encourage all members of the staff to be patient and practise Batho Pele principles and guarantee great patient experience.
The young and vibrant CEO holds a Bachelor degree in Dental Therapy, and a Bachelor degree in Dental Sciences both acquired at the Medical University of South Africa.
With a view of broadening his knowledge in the health fraternity he also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Endodontics with University of Pretoria as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health at the University of Cape Town.
To capacitate himself with management matters, Dr Sello Matjila completed a Master's Degree in Business Leadership at the University of South Africa.
Dr Matjila previously worked at the University of Witwatersrand as a lecturer in the Department of General Dental Practise and this is where he learnt a lot about comprehensive patients' care, admissions and emergencies. He was also employed at the Medunsa Oral health centre as Acting CEO.
Prior to him joining Kalafong Hospital he was a Clinical Services Manager at Sefako Makgatho School of Oral Health Sciences.
