Office of the Premier 2022/02/17 - 22:00
Gauteng News
My Gauteng News took to the streets to get a cross-section of opinions from Gauteng residents on their SONA expectations.
Gift Mabasa (30):
"I wish the Premier would outline how the provincial government will address red tapes which are standing in the way for small businesses. The regulations take forever and the consultation requirements that are associated with them are very expensive. When you've worked your way through all the red tape, the market has changed. Many SMMEs have failed because of the red tape.
Thembi Nkonyane (62):
I would like the Premier to speak more on job creation in order to eradicate unemployment and poverty, especially for our youth. Government must make resources available to assist young people to take charge of their lives and eliminate dependency. He must also deal with cadre deployment, government needs to appoint competent and skilled people.
Mkhombiseni Manyathi:
He must focus on youth development programmes in our townships to keep the youth away from the streets. Communities need libraries that offer internet access.
Lerato Mashishi (40):
He must address lack of service delivery in communities. It is a serious matter and people end up protesting and damaging the infrastructure that government has already provided. Our communities sometimes go for weeks without running water and this is not healthy. It would be great to see our leaders act quickly when communities have crises.
Sindiswa Gcali (35):
I wish the Premier can announce more job opportunities for the youth so that they do not rely on government grants for survival. This would also help minimise crime because people would be working instead of sitting in corners robbing people. Lack of employment also discourages youth from studying because there are a lot of unemployed graduates, they see education as a waste of time.
Fundiswa Matheza (31):
It would be nice to hear the Premier speaking more on the delivery of houses. People have been on waiting lists for a very long time and some have even passed on without having a place to call home. There are just too many informal settlements with no proper ablution facilities.
Menzi Khoza:
Gauteng is one province that boasts multiple security services in the form of the South African Police Services and Metro Police. This being the case, I'm looking forward to hearing the Premier announce clear strategies to confront crime in the province.
Christopher Moleke:
What I expect as a resident of Gauteng is to get a progress report on job opportunities that were promised. I want to know how many jobs have been created and where are those jobs. I would also like the Premier to give feedback on the progress that government is making in fighting corruption. Corruption hinders our development as a province.
Duduzile Miya:
I hope that the State of the Province Address can pave the way for gender-responsive planning and adequate resourcing of programmes to combat gender-based violence across the province.
