The delivery of health services will not be disrupted following the indefinite closure of Duduza Clinic in Ekurhuleni yesterday.
The clinic was closed after a nurse tested positive for COVID-19. She had attended the prayer breakfast at the Divine Restoration Ministries in Ribblesdale, Bloemfontein, on 10 March 2020.
To ensure the continuity of service delivery, the municipality has since deployed two mobile clinics to the community to attend to medical needs. Staff from neighbouring clinics will man these mobile clinics and will be equipped with full protective gear and will also be required to practice stringent hygiene protocols when working with the public.
The health facility and surrounding area will now be sanitised to kill traces of the virus that may have survived on surfaces.
Staff members have been placed in self-quarantine and those who showed symptoms have been tested and are awaiting results.
The City of Ekurhuleni's Phakamile Mbengashe said: "To mitigate the spread of the virus in the community, we have tracers looking for all the contacts who may come into contact with the nurse so they can be screened and tested."
The city urges the community not to panic but continue to observe the regulations of the 21-day-lockdown.
