MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo launched the Provincial Roads grass cutting and vegetation control project along the OR Tambo International Airport and Giloolly's Interchange in the City of Ekurhuleni.  
The three-year, R500 million project includes grass-cutting, tree felling, litter picking and vegetation control to improve the aesthetics of cleaner and more beautiful roads. This will serve to ensure that median and reserves along major roads are maintained to acceptable standards.
Undertaken in partnership with municipalities, it is expected to create more than 1000 jobs across all the regions.
Remarking on the project, MEC Mamabolo said "we are intensifying our road maintenance by launching a three-year program for grass cutting today. R500 million has been invested over three years, and that may also increase." 
The youth, particularly women, have been given job opportunities with numbers expected to increase as the project picks up steam. A total number of seventeen (17) companies have been appointed.
The project is also expected to enhance the Department's #SmartMobilityWeekends campaign aimed at patching and fixing potholes, installing/fixing signage and markings on province's road network. 
This forms part of the Department's strategy of Growing Gauteng Together Through Smart Mobility.
