There's  less than a week left  the closing date for the online registration for admissions to the 2021 academic year for grades 1 and 8.

MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has advised parents that have not yet applied to use this time to apply online before the 2021 admissions application period closes.

To date, approximately 50 percent of the 203579 applicants have not submitted the required documents to the schools.

"For parents that are unable to upload documents, schools are making provision for documents to be dropped off at identified areas away from class rooms and office space. This provision is available only up to 14h00 on 31 July 2020.

"The Placement Period for Admission 2020 will commence on 1 October 2020 and close on 30 November 2020. It must be noted that parents may not receive offers on the same day, as the Department will be processing offers on the same day, as the Department will be processing offers systematically on a daily basis up to 30 November 2020," said MEC Lesufi.

The department has also noted that the 'first come, first serve' principle would not apply.

"Offers of placement will be generated from schools where the applicant learner qualifies for placement based on the Admissions Criteria as well as the Availability of Space (capacity).

"Offers will be sent to parents via SMS on the cell phone number registered on the System. However, placement must be accepted Online by logging on to www.gdeadmissions.gov.za, within Seven Days," said Lesufi.

These are some of the secondary schools that are high in demand, thus receiving a significantly higher number of applications that have available spaces; Alberton High, Northcliff High, Mondeor High and Sunward park High Schools.
