Acting Gauteng Health MEC Jacob Mamabolo meets managers

Today, 31 July 2020, Acting MEC for Health in Gauteng, Jacob Mamabolo met with Senior Managers in the Department so he can be acquainted with the team. 

Ahead of his engagement with senior managers, MEC Mamabolo had a session with Head of Department Professor Mkhululi Lukhele and Chief of Operations, Arnold Malotana who briefed him on developments in the Department.

Yesterday, Thursday, 30 July 2020, Gauteng Premier, David Makhura announced that he appointed the Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure MEC to act as Health MEC for the next four weeks after he granted Dr Bandile Masuku leave of absence.

Addressing the team, MEC Mamabolo said that he was honoured to have been asked to temporarily steer the ship and was looking forward to working with all employees to ensure that Gauteng continues to give an adequate response to the COVID-19 pandemic with the number one   being to save lives.

"This department is very important. It deals with the lives of people.  I am deeply excited that I have been asked to be here for a few days. It is an honour to work with this team because you have a very

difficult task, your work is very complex and you are running a big operation," said MEC Mamabolo.

He added that as someone who has been an employee in the public service before he fully appreciates and is aware of the difficulties that confront public servants.

"I am here to work with you and not to make your job difficult. I know that most public servants want to make a difference and to serve the country," assured the MEC.

Encouraging leaders in the Department to serve the people of Gauteng, MEC Mamabolo said: "Let us all focus on the challenge we are facing of curbing the spread of Covid-19. During this task, no fraudulent activities will be tolerated, those involved in such acts will be dealt with through law enforcement agencies."

He also encouraged staff members to fully co-operate with law enforcement officers who are currently conducting investigation on various issues plaguing the department.

Head of Department, Professor Mkhululi Lukhele assured the MEC that all officials in the Department will support him while executing his duties in the next few weeks.

During his time in the Department, MEC Mamabolo will amongst others: familiarise himself with the duties at hand; engaging with staff as well as visiting various facilities to get an understanding of the current health dynamics.​
