In commemoration of Patient Safety Day, Tshwane District Hospital focused on educating expectant mothers attending ante-natal clinic on how to best protect themselves and their unborn babies.
Under the theme, "Act now for safe and respectful child birth", Operational Manager for the Post-Natal Ward, Sister Dellien Modise said with the disruption of essential health services caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign is even more important this year. 
She said: "The campaign aimed at raising global awareness on the issues of maternal and new born safety, particularly during childbirth as well as to advocate the adoption of best practices at the point of care to prevent avoidable risks and harm to all women and new born babies during childbirth."
According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 810 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth and considering the significant burden of risks and harm women and new-borns are exposed to due to unsafe care.
