Department of Social Development 2025/03/14 - 22:00
The Gauteng Department of Social Development commenced with Sawubona Mhlali Service Delivery Brigades Roadshows, an initiative aimed at strengthening service delivery and community engagement across the province.
Established in 2024, the Sawubona Mhlali Service Delivery Brigade programme boasts 1,759 brigades, strategically placed within their residential wards to bridge the gap between communities and government services. These brigades play a critical role in profiling communities in need, raising awareness about available social services, and fostering intergovernmental collaboration to ensure effective service delivery.Beyond providing vital information, the brigades contribute to tackling unemployment by empowering vulnerable residents and driving community-based initiatives.Speaking at the roadshow event held at Chief Mogale Community Hall in the Western Corridor, EPWP Project Manager Seipati Motlabane highlighted the significance of the programme: “The work done by brigades in communities is crucial, as it allows the Department to gather firsthand information on the challenges faced by Gauteng residents. We remain committed to expanding access to services and alleviating poverty through this initiative.”Representing the MEC’s Office, Andile Mthembu acknowledged the challenges faced by the brigades but reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to their cause.“Despite the hurdles, which are being addressed, we will continue supporting key initiatives such as the anti-substance abuse drive, the Ke Moja Campaign, and the Service Delivery Blitz.”The roadshow will be rolled out across all corridors, ensuring that communities throughout Gauteng benefit from this hands-on service delivery approach.
