Gauteng Provincial Government has encouraged people to remain vigilant and adhere to non-pharmaceutical interventions when visiting voter registration stations this weekend.
"Let us all remain vigilant and adhere to non-pharmaceutical interventions including those who will be visiting voter registration station during the registration weekend on 18 and 19 September 2021," the provincial government said in a statement on
Friday.
At least 2 800 voter registration stations will be in operation from 08h00 until 17h00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
Ahead of the elections on 1 November, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has also introduced online registration: Voter Portal.
Government has warned that although the province has seen a consistent decrease in the number of new infections, it is not the time to be complacent as the risk of a resurgence remains high.
The country is also expecting the fourth wave in the coming few months.
"When 70% or more of the adult population is vaccinated, it can lessen the impact of the fourth wave and avoid stricter restrictions."
This will also allow the province to accelerate the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan.
As of 16 September 2021, 4 092 308 vaccines have been administered in the province.
Gauteng vaccination rollout programme continues to expand through innovative partnerships between government, civil society, faith-based organisations, media, the taxi industry and business.
The use of pop-up sites and mobile vaccination units continues to ensure that as many people as possible are reached.
All vaccination sites including pop-up and mobile units accept walk-ins to ensure that no one is left behind. The public will be assisted with the registration process and vaccination on-site.
The vaccination programme is open to all people in South Africa, whether or not they are South African citizens.
Vaccination is free to everyone in South Africa. You can go to a government health facility or a private pharmacy that offers vaccinations, even if you are not on medical aid.
