Bet lotto to change lives

Last Friday, the National Lottery Commission's Advocate Makhosazana Lindhorst encouraged people to continue playing Lotto so that funds can be generated and converted to donations.

Lindhorst was speaking during the handing over of Personal Protective Equipment's (PPEs) at Bokamoso Early Childhood Development Centre donated by the NLC, by Social Development Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu in Sunnyside, Tshwane.

She said, "We encourage people to bet on the lottery. The donation of PPEs to this ECD mark the end of a nationwide initiative that was started by Social Development Deputy Minister, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, to hand over Personal Protective Equipment's (PPEs) to Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres. In Gauteng childcare centres such as Ebenezer Child Development Centre in Braamfischerville, Soweto were among those who benefited.


A total of 127 ECD centres were built in partnership with the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) to meet compliance regulations as stipulated by the Department of Social Development for the reopening of ECD centres under the Disaster Management Act.

DSD carried out the campaign in collaboration with NLC and eSimphiwe Child Care Centre with the aim to assist ECDs in disadvantaged communities to comply with COVID-19 regulations. This initiative has benefitted 5000 children and 680 practitioners at ECDs countrywide.

Bogopane-Zulu emphasised the importance of such infrastructure, that it is intended for child development and must be continuously accessible and implemented. "Investing in ECDs is investing in children's future. Where the foundation is laid, values are taught so children do not contribute to future social ills".
