The countdown to the Gauteng State of the Province Address (SOPA) has started, with just five days to go until Premier David Makhura delivers his address at the Brixton MultiPurpose Centre.
On Monday, 21 February 2022, Makhura will have an opportunity to highlight the provincial government's progress and programme of action for the year ahead.
The address also marks the mid-term review of the sixth administration, where the Premier will highlight progress made from 2019 to 2021.
The premier will also provide an update on the four priorities made during the 2021 SOPA, namely:
- Winning the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Re-igniting the Gauteng economy to take a lead in South Africa's economic reconstruction and recovery plan.
- Recalibrating social policy to improve educational and health outcomes, fight crime and protect the most vulnerable sections of the population against urban poverty and hunger.
- Improving governance across the Gauteng City-Region to focus on delivering results and improving the quality of life of residents as well as enhancing ethics, integrity, and accountability.
The address will be live on DStv's Parliamentary Channel 408 or any of the Gauteng-based community radio stations from 10 am.
