As part of women's month celebrations, Gauteng Provincial Government to date has about 30 000 young women beneficiaries on the welfare to work program. This program moves beneficiaries from being dependent on the state grant as grant recipients to self-dependence.
This words were echoed by the Acting Premier Panyaza Lesufi during the Women's Day event themed, "25 Years of Democracy: Growing South Africa Together for Women's Emancipation". This year's program, held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, coincides with the country's celebration of 25 Years of Freedom and Democracy ".
Lesufi said that, "As government we will continue to offer dignity packs instead of sanitary towels to the young ladies in schools. In everything we do as government a girl learner will come first".
Lesufi announced that going forward in Gauteng there will be no tender that will be awarded without women involvement. 
Young woman Florah Ramakgopa said that government should join forces with aspiring young women for the next 25 years to give women an opportunity in government to shine in the space of growth and development.
The program started with a march from Women's Living Heritage Monument to the Union Buildings.
Every year in August the country marks Women's Month, and also pays tribute to more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 09 August 1956 to denounce the extension of the Pass Laws to women.
This year's annual commemoration takes place alongside the 65th anniversary of the Founding Conference of the Federation of South African Women which adopted the 1954 Women's Charter.​
