The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg,  Geoff Makhubo together with Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) of Transport, Nonhlanhla Makhuba in partnership with  insurance companies, Dial-Direct and Discovery on Monday, 03 May 2021 officially launched the Pothole Patrol initiative on Cnr William Nicol and Sandton drive .
The initiative forms part of the 120 Days of accelerated service delivery that the City has recently embarked on, with potholes being one of the main issues being tackled in all seven regions. 
Mayor Makhubo said the initiative will be a game-changer in resolving the backlog created by the national lockdown and the scourge of potholes on Joburg roads. 
"Having these two competing brands come together for societal change is what we would like to see more often. As the City of Johannesburg, we call upon the private sector, NGO and FBO's to partner with us; to make Joburg great" he said.
"I am confident that the launch of this pothole patrol partnership will be a game-changer in resolving the defects and potholes on our roads. Through such partnerships with corporate we shall be able to create a liveable, sustainable and a resilient City with safer roads" he added. 
The Pothole Patrol partnership aims to manage the repair of potholes throughout Johannesburg, in a unique data-driven initiative designed to make roads safer for all residents.
Discovery Insure CEO, Anton Ossip said fixing potholes is everyone's problem and everyone is affected by it.
"Pothole claims are a big problem for insurance companies and it is also a big problem for people that are not insured because they end up paying the claim themselves" said Anton Ossip. 
Head of Dial-Direct Insurance, Anneli Retief said they are back once again and ready to help solve the backlog of potholes and help make Johannesburg roads safe.
"The last time we were involved with the Dial-Direct pothole patrols we repaired 65,000 plus potholes in Joburg and surrounding areas," said Anneli Retief.
