In response to supporting healthcare workers emotionally and spiritually during the Covid-19 period, congregants of Temba Circuit Methodist Church embarked on an appreciation outreach programme to show them gratitude for their time and selflessness during this pandemic.
Singing worship songs and holding posters with messages of appreciation, congregants arrived at the hospital very early in time for those reporting on and off duty.
Speaking during the outreach programme, Youth Leader in the Temba Circuit Methodist Church Thabang Mokgoshi said: "Churches are an integral part of every community and are often on the front line of responding to disasters, both practically and pastorally. Experience from previous epidemics has shown that churches are particularly well-placed to build trust and hope, to counter fear, to build community resilience as well as individual mental and spiritual resilience."
This gesture was greatly appreciated by healthcare workers and assisted in boosting staff morale amongst staff members.
"As Management and staff of Jubilee District Hospital, we were deeply touched by the unconditional love shown by the Church. This definitely gives us hope and added strength to continue doing good. We will continue to deliver quality healthcare to all our patients who depend on us when they are sick. We thank the Methodist Church for their time and effort in making this possible. It is really appreciated", said Tsakani Ngwenya, Head of Nursing and Acting CEO on the day.
"We have realized as the Church that Mental Health has also been a huge factor during Covid-19 because people couldn't gather together for worship. In light of this, we wanted to remember the health workers who are in the frontline of Covid-19 pandemic at hospitals or clinics in respective communities. The appreciation drive will continue to other public health facilities in and around the area," concluded Mokgoshi.
