Gauteng MEC for Health, Dr. Nomathemba Mokgethi conducted an oversight visit at Olievenhoutbosch Community Hall and Atteridgeville Community Hall Vaccination Site in Tshwane this past weekend.

The MEC's visit comes after the provincial government's resolution to increase the number of vaccination sites operational on weekends (from four to sixteen) in efforts to accelerate the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

MEC Mokgethi said that the increase in vaccination sites operational on weekends is convenient for those who cannot make time during the week.

"We have realised that there are many people who are working during the week, therefore, this makes it impossible for them to vaccinate," said the MEC.

The MEC also said that that the additional sites will make the provincial target of rolling out a 100 000 Covid-19 vaccination jabs per day a reality.

"The more vaccination sites we have operating on weekends, the more our people can have access to the Covid-19 vaccine," said MEC Mokgethi.

In conclusion, the MEC also encourage all eligible persons aged 35 and older to make use of this opportunity and to get their COVID-19 vaccine in numbers.
