Gauteng MEC for Public Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo has launched the R23 billion Infrastructure Project Book, and unveiled the Transport Infrastructure House on Thursday, 18 March 2021 in Sandton, Johannesburg.

These projects are aimed at helping the province to reignite the economy for the next 10 years. The Transport Infrastructure House (TIH) is an internal capacity to deliver on transport in our province and will support and cooperate with municipalities to maintain and patch roads.

The TIH is created by internal officials and external consultants who have been brought to the department through the Gautrain Management Agency.

Mamabolo said he wanted to clean up the transport sector and make it more convenient for road users.

"The TIH will leverage on technology such as drones to monitor projects. This will give us eyes in the air. We are going to crack the whip behind the patching of potholes. We are dealing with the lives of the people," he said.

He further noted that  these projects were part of the department's strategy of Growing Gauteng Together Through Smart Mobility and moving Gauteng into the future requires the transport system to be aligned with new concepts and designs, as well as incorporating new technology.

"Transport is the service that must be able to play a role in Gauteng's economy. We need both an economy that is sustainable as well as one that creates jobs," said Mamabolo..

, MEC Mamabolo added that the smart mobility plan aims to address logistics inefficiencies in the province and could include getting a higher number of cars off the road, with road users opting for public transport instead.
