Request a Slot - Gauteng launches campaign to address licence renewal backlog

Department of Roads and Transport 2021/08/30 - 22:00

The Department has launched a #RequestASlotGP campaign to enable licence cardholders to request and get allocated a booking slot.

The campaign will run concurrently with the already successful Smart Mobility Weekends Campaign and vaccination programme at the taxi ranks.

A web-based license renewal booking system has been created where cardholders can, at their convenience, request for a slot.

Previously, a notice on slot availability was sent to those cardholders whose licenses were soon to expire without them asking for it. Now the onus is on cardholders to take the initiative and make the request.

MEC Jacob Mamabolo said "through this campaign, we seek to form partnerships with people, motorists and license cardholders to create platforms for them to request a slot. Applicants will be allocated slots within 30 days, upon receipt of the required, full information by the Department".

This information will be used primarily to prioritise those whose driving licence cards had expired during the COVID-19 lockdown period or earlier.

Requests for a slot can be made at the following email addresses:

- Email: requestaslot@gauteng.gov.za

- Email: requestaslot@rtmc.co.za

Alternatively, online bookings can be made on https://online.natis.gov.za

An Android-based Application (APP) is currently under construction and will be available from Monday, 06 September 2021.

The MEC also commended the 500 000 cardholders who earlier received notices and took up the available slots to have their license cards renewed.

MEC Mamabolo has also appealed to applicants to honour their appointments (slots) or at least communicate about not making it through on time. This will ensure slots are allocated to others.
