The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has committed to intensifying its efforts to conduct repairs and render maintenance services for defective traffic signals along provincial routes.

To this end, the Department has concluded an audit of defective traffic signals with the maintenance and repairs having resumed on Monday, 10 January 2022.

Said the MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo "we would like to assure motorists that the Department is hard at work in its maintenance of and repairs to defective traffic signals along provincial roads. An audit of the defective signals has been concluded with the maintenance and repairs scheduled to resume in earnest this week."

Meanwhile, the Department's emergency road maintenance teams, as part of the #SmartMobility programme - a dedicated extra-capacity for road maintenance, are continuing to attend to various damages inflicted onto the infrastructure by heavy rainfall over the past weeks.

The MEC also urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and responsibility when driving in rainy conditions.
