Gauteng Department of Social Development in conjunction with Gauteng Treasury and Standard Bank hosted a Women-in-Business Workshop at Kokosi Community Hall, Fochville in the West Rand on Tuesday.
The workshop was aimed at educating local businesswomen on how to register their companies with the Gauteng Provincial Government. The session also highlighted the need to always comply with the requirements to do business with state institutions, this included being tax compliant and meeting BBBEE requirements.During the workshop, the Gauteng Treasury Supply Chain Management official, Avuyile Tele said, “This workshop was supposed to take place in August as we celebrated women in our country. In August we could not reach all the communities as a result we are continuing with the initiative to ensure our intended beneficiaries are reached. We want to equip women with knowledge on how you register your businesses. We also assist you to register to be in our database of suppliers so that you can do business with the Gauteng Government. We want to empower you to be familiar with tendering systems so that you can apply whenever opportunities arise”, said Tele.39-years-old Kgomotso Maseko from Kokosi in Fochville was excited to be part of the workshop. She said, “I am excited and hopeful that my baking and fast-food business will expand with the information I got from the various stakeholders today. They also took my details for business opportunities in the Gauteng Government. With the government reaching out to us, we will also empower others within our community. We are grateful to our government for being thoughtful”, she said.Tele added to the participants at the workshop that they should make use of the opportunity afforded to them. He further encouraged them to register on the GPG wide database.“We have many opportunities from various departments. We do not want to be supplied by the same people, but we want all of you to benefit” concluded Tele.
