South Africa has been shaken to its core by the merciless killings of women and children in the recent months.
Following the tragic killing of UCT student, Uyinene Mrwetyana, South African female boxing champion Leighandre "Baby Lee" Jegels, Ayakha Jiyane along with her three siblings and others, the country has been in a state of mourning and outcry over the growing cases of femicide.
As such, Gauteng Treasury and Gauteng Department of e-Government​ women wore black attire and doeks on Friday, 6th September 2019 as a way of voicing their sorrow and that enough is enough, femicide must stop. As it stands, reports reveal South Africa is rated 4th in the world in having the highest cases of femicide.
In addition to coming in solidarity against these barbaric killings, Gauteng Treasury and Gauteng Department of e-Government staff also took a moment of silence for all the victims of xenophobia following the heartsore xenophobic attacks that have gripped Gauteng, and the country as a whole. 
Colleagues gathered at the Imbumba House Atrium for this observance where there was also candlelight vigil and prayer.
