Gauteng Health MEC Dr Bandile Masuku recently welcomed 28 Cuban Medical Brigade who have been deployed to Gauteng Health by the National Department of Health to minimize the spread of CoVid 19.
More than 200 doctors from Cuba have arrived in South Africa to help fight the Covid 19 pandemic. The doctors including community health and infectious disease specialists, epidemiologists, statisticians and medical technologists arrived in the country last month and were welcomed by military and health authorities.
Speaking at the event, MEC Masuku said; “We officially welcome you to the Gauteng Province and to the Department of Health. As you join an already hardworking team of health workers, you will find a support base to equip you to undertake your respective tasks.” 
The South African government has requested assistance from the Cuban government to support efforts to curb the spread of Covid 19
“As the leadership of this Department our doors are open to you for the duration of your stay. While this may seem like the beginning, we know beyond any reasonable doubt that victory is certain,” concluded MEC Masuku.
