Patients at Edenvale Regional Hospital will no longer have to wait long hours to access radiography services as the new state-of-the-art X-ray machine promises to alleviate the pressure on the hospital's Radiology Department.
For months, the hospital has faced challenges with only one functional X-ray machine, which often led to delays and longer waiting times for patients in need of imaging services. The addition of this new equipment is expected to improve the efficiency of diagnostic services, ensuring that patients receive timely care, particularly as the busy festive season approaches.
Equipped with advanced technology features that enables capturing of high-quality images swiftly, this new unit will improve the quality of the services rendered as healthcare professionals can now provide more accurate diagnoses without the prolonged waiting periods that have previously hindered patient care. Additionally, patient information will be securely stored on a cloud service to enhance accessibility for medical staff.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko reiterated the importance of ensuring that healthcare facilities are well-equipped with the right resources to meet the demands of the communities.
"This new machine is a game-changer for our hospital and the community we serve. It will significantly reduce waiting times and improve the overall patient care experience, which is especially important during the festive season when we anticipate an increase in cases," she stated.
The hospital also celebrated the renovation of its pediatric X-ray room, made possible through a generous donation from Plascon in Krugersdorp. The revamped space aims to create a more inviting environment for young patients, helping to ease the anxiety often associated with medical procedures.
"Creating a child-friendly atmosphere is essential for making our young patients feel safe and comfortable. The new decor and artwork are designed to provide a calming experience for children undergoing imaging", said Ms Amo Maseko, Head of Radiology at Edenvale Regional Hospital.
Meanwhile, as the festive season draws closers, the MEC urged all healthcare facilities to prepare adequately for the expected surge in patient volumes, highlighting the importance of being ready to provide quality care.
