MEC Jacob Mamabolo has, on Wednesday, 10 August 2022, launched the R82 (Old Vereeniging -Third Phase) road rehabilitation project between De Deur and Walkerville in the Sedibeng District Municipality.
The R82 is one of three strategic routes that connect Johannesburg to the industrial hubs of Meyerton, Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark. It also a major arterial route that is critical for the economic well-being and growth of the Sedibeng region.
The upgrading project's main objectives include improving accessibility and road capacity from the current single to a dual carriageway.
Scope of works will include installation of streetlights at all intersections, installation of traffic signals as well as construction of cycleways and sidewalks amongst others.
The project is in line with the Department's strategic objective of Growing Gauteng Together through Smart Mobility.
