Gauteng water interruptions requires all spheres of government to work together to ensure access to clean water for everyone, says Premier David Makhura.
Makhura and Human Settlement MEC Lebogang Maile on Tuesday convened in a meeting with Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu to discuss water security in the province.
"We are happy to be meeting with Minister Mchunu and his delegation to discuss water security in our province.
"Gauteng is experiencing water interruptions now more than ever. This requires all spheres of government to work together to ensure access to clean water for everyone," Makhura said.
Mchunu is on a three-day visit to the province as part of his special intervention to assess the state of provinces battling with water and sanitation interruptions.
The Gauteng City Region (GCR) faces water shortage risks, aggravated by rapid population growth, high water losses and degradation of the quality of water resources, climate change effects and increasing demands for Human settlements development.
Some provinces water security interventions include reducing water supply and demand, improve environmental protection and water quality, invest in alternative water sources, strengthen institutions and institutional cooperation.
The three-day visit will deliberate on matters of governance, implementation, service delivery and finance towards the provision of quality water and decent sanitation.
The programme will be inclusive of a site visit to a water treatment plant, as well as to the Vaal Project Pump station in Sebokeng on Thursday.
