MEC Moiloa lashes at Tshwane mayor for being dishonest on eviction order

Department of Human Settlements

The Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements Dikgang Uhuru Moiloa has expressed disappointment at the short-sighted statement made by the MMC for Housing in Tshwane Mandla Nkomo and Executive Mayor of Tshwane Councillor Solly Msimanga. “The statement is reckless, unnecessary and does not contribute towards finding a solution to the problems of Olievenhoutbosch. As leaders in society we should lead by example and always seek to take our nation forward and not be power hungry chameleons,” said the MEC. Moiloa said that the Department will not condone any illegal actions or actions that derail the plans of government to improve the lives of qualifying and deserving beneficiaries. This is after violent protests erupted in Olievenhoutbosch after the Department won another round of the legal battle to evict people who invaded 888 houses RDP houses. “Deserving and qualifying beneficiaries will be allocated in the houses, regardless of the area that they come from. It is disingenuous to suggest that Department is responsible for the protests when opportunists use the plight of residents to further their criminal acts,” he said. Moiloa called on the community not to be misled by power hungry leaders and stop the violent protest and for those who have occupied the houses illegal to move out before being evicted.
