The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) has partnered with the Gauteng Provincial Government and various transport entities launched to launch 'Road to Community Immunity' campaign to encourage responsible use of roads as well as urge the public to get vaccinated. The launch took place on Thursday, 07 April 2022, at the Park Station in Johannesburg.

TETA is the transport Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) established in terms of the Skills Development Act, Act 97 of 1998.

Transport entities include Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), SANRAL, Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

The campaign forms part of an effort to curb the road carnage, minimizing the impact of COVID-19, save lives and further enhance economic recovery.

In her remarks, TETA CEO, Ms. Maphefo Anno-Frempong indicated that "as a skills development authority for the transport sector, we are combining (the) vaccination (drive) with road safety, so that we do not lose more people, as we require more people back in the workplace". She went on to encourage commuters to vaccinate.

The transport training authority has, in recent past, played an important role in giving opportunities to 100 unemployed youth through PRASA's Graduates Programme.

As part of the Easter Vaccination Drive, the Gauteng Department of Health has set up a designated vaccination site at the venue. The Department is encouraging those who are not vaccinated, those partially vaccinated and those needing booster shots to come in and get their jabs at their convenience.

The Department managed to have over 50 people vaccinated on site.

Meanwhile, the Department of Roads and Transport will join with other transport entities to create awareness of road safety ahead of the Easter holidays, in a series of activations.

Public representatives, in attendance, from the Gauteng Provincial Government encouraged the commuters to take the jab and protect those close to them.

Amongst various safety issues and concerns raised by commuters included taxi overloading; return to service of trains in Soweto and Randfontein; non-functioning traffic signals; and illegal acquisition of driving licences.
