In his state of the province address (SOPA), Gauteng Premier David Makhura said the number of township enterprises doing business with government has increased tremendously through the years.
This is in response to the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG)'s Township Economy Revitalisation Strategy to ensure that local suppliers are capacitated and are paid on time.
As such, the Gauteng Department of Social Development hosted a Supply Chain Session at Munsieville Hall, West Rand Region to empower both informal and formal business owners to contribute to the Gauteng economy.
Speaking to local suppliers, Deputy Director for Demand Management and Customer Relationship, Thembeni Khumalo said these sessions were hosted in all regions in the province to equip local business owners with information.
The Department visits different regions every quarter to maintain its relationship with customers through the supply chain. Those who attended for the first time will receive feedback after three months to see if any developments have occurred.
"We've come to the community to give them information that is important for their businesses, and to help them develop further. By bringing in stakeholders like the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Gauteng Provincial Treasury, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), the local business people get the opportunity to learn about various aspects of tax, labour and anything else concerning their businesses," said Khumalo.
The youth of Munsieville also had a chance to learn how state entities function and how they can get funding for their businesses.
In essence, best practice organisations succeed by leveraging end-to-end processes focused on the customer across the entire value chain. Supply chains are the engines that power enterprise success.
