Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure has strongly warned service providers awarded to deliver transport infrastructure projects of new measures introduced to end non-compliance with legal contracts.
MEC Mamabolo issued the warning during the official launch of the K73 (Allandale Road) construction project in Waterfall in Midrand, Johannesburg. "The Compliance Office is one of the critical mechanisms in the delivery of projects as it is responsible for enforcing compliance with contractual and legislative obligations stated in the contracts that the Department signs with the service providers". 
The R300 million project is located between Kyalami Racetrack to the west, Mall of Africa to the east and Waterfall Estate to the South and Vorna Valley to the North. This involves the construction of a dual carriageway of the new road section between Montrose Road and Allandale Road, upgrading of Woodmead Drive and Allandale Road between Harry Galaun and Pitts Avenue.
The MEC indicated the work is part of Gauteng Provincial Government's Ntirhisano Service Delivery Outreach Programme aimed at resolving challenges and fast-tracking service delivery.
"As Premier David Makhura stated during his State of The Province Address, infrastructure investment remains a key catalyst for the growth of our economy. Our investment in infrastructure will result in the creation of efficiencies in the economy and stimulate economic growth and job creation"
Reassuring the MEC, Lonerock Construction's Nkoane Mokabane committed the company will deliver a quality project, completed on time and withing budget.
"We hope to finish this project on time, to deliver to the quality that we are expected to deliver. Our target in terms of labour is about 250, we also have a target of SMMEs, 10 percent for local SMMEs. We believe there will be peace during the course of this project with no disruptions, finishing on time and within budget".
Construction is set to be completed by end of August 2023 and will be constantly monitored through the recently introduced Digital Turnaround of Transport Infrastructure. This includes the Daily Monitoring Tool, Project Management Dashboard, Project Readiness Matrix as well as the Transport Infrastructure Compliance Office.
