In 2005, October was declared Transport Month during the
Transport Lekgotla.
The month-long programme showcases transport infrastructure
projects, promote use of public transport and advance the country’s road safety
initiatives. It is also
used to raise awareness on the important role of transport in the economy and encourage
participation from civil society and business.
Investments in public transport infrastructure are part of
building and operating an integrated public transport network including the
provision of a safe and more affordable, accessible and reliable transport
system.
Government (National/Provincial/Local) is continuous investment
in the transport sector serves to stimulate development, grow the economy and address
the challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
