The Steve Biko Academic Hospital will tomorrow (Wednesday, 25 September) host the inaugural Steve Biko Memorial Day to commemorate the life and legacy of Bantu Stephen Biko after whom the facility was renamed 16 years ago.
Since its inception in 1932, Steve Biko Academic Hospital (SBAH) has transformed extensively, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare and medical education. The hospital was renamed in 2008 to honour the legacy of Steve Biko and continues to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration in the medical community.
The SBAH’s first Steve Biko Memorial Day will see the Health Ombudsman, Professor Taole Resetselemang Mokoena, a former classmate of Biko at medical school, deliver the inaugural lecture.
Prof. Mokoena will share personal insights and reflections on Biko's contributions to the medical field and his enduring influence on medical practice and social justice.
In attendance will be various stakeholders including the representatives from the Steve Biko Foundation together with the MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
